How many times have you heard that we live in a post-Christian world, as if God cares that most people don’t consider themselves Christians anymore? The Bible often speaks of the remnant of God’s people, and if we’re honest, God’s people have always been a remnant. Jesus Christ was a revolutionary. Nothing He did made sense to the religious leaders of the day. First, He arrived humbly, born in a manger. In His ministry He never had a place to call home. He died a criminal’s death, even though He did nothing wrong. At one point, after Peter’s confession of faith, Jesus said that on the rock of that confession, He would establish His Church, and the gates of hell would not prevail against it. Does that sound like our LORD created His Church with the idea that it would end one day? No, we don’t live in post-Christian world; we live in a world where many people have forgotten Who their God is.
As a Christian Marriage and Family Therapist, many people come to see me who don’t believe in God or who have strayed far from God. I never impose my Christian values on anyone; for God never forces anyone to believe in Him. Our LORD invites people to walk with Him, and when we come to Him, we realize the freedom that exists for followers of Christ. I will talk about faith in my work with my Clients, but only if they’re open to it. And you know what? I’ve had Clients tell me that although they did not come to counseling to talk about God, that is exactly what they needed.
