The basic building block of society is the family. Anything that denigrates the family denigrates society as a whole. And central to any family is the marriage relationship. For decades, there has been a systematic attack on what it means to be a family. The Word of God is clear that marriage is defined as a union between one man and one woman. When our LORD instituted marriage in the Garden of Eden, He indicated that it was to be a union of a male and a female, and He told Adam and Eve to multiply and to rule the Earth.

The problem is that even in the Church, Christians often fail in marriage. It is all part of the erosion of marriage that has always existed. We are fallen human beings, and when two fallen people get together in a marriage, it takes tremendous work to make it work.

The answer to the problem of divorce in the Church is obvious. As Christians, we all need to renew our commitment to God first. If we do, the Holy Spirit will empower us to give our spouses the grace and mercy needed to have strong marriages. No one sets out in a new marriage for it to end in divorce. Families are suffering because marriages are suffering. If we, as God’s people, are going to restore our families, then we need to renew our commitment to our spouses unconditionally.
