What makes a good leader?

I have studied many leaders in history, and I’ve noticed many things about them. Many of them came upon the scene when they were really needed. Others were poor leaders, unable to think beyond what they wanted for themselves. We can agree that all leaders are flawed people.

Whether you’re a good leader or not, it all depends on Whom you serve. There have been many leaders who served God first, and they tried their best to serve others, as well. These are the servant-leaders that God has sent into the world, those who lead in righteous ways, with love and honor. I believe it is beyond dispute that the greatest Servant-Leader was our LORD Jesus Christ Himself. He came not only to lead us, but to serve us by sacrificing His Life as a Ransom for many.

Then, there have been leaders in history who have led the people astray. These are the ones who either serve themselves or serve the enemy of our souls. They will exist in the world until our LORD returns to make all things right, which will include destroying these enemies of God.

A good leader serves God first, and then he or she loves and serves mankind with love and kindness, just like our LORD does. A good leader serves God with their life. He or she will make mistakes because we all do, but they own up to them. He or she will be accountable to the people they serve. And, he or she does not take advantage of those they lead.

We need to be praying that God sends Godly men and women to run for office, leaders who will do the right things. Our Nation deserves these kind of leaders.
