Today, our Blessed Holy Spirit, drew my attention to Matthew 22:23-33:
“The same day the Sadducees, who say there is no resurrection, came to Him, Moses said that if a man dies, having no children, his brother shall marry his wife and raise up offspring for his brother. Now there were with us seven brothers. The first died after he had married, and having no offspring, left his wife to his brother. Likewise the second also, and the third, even to the seventh. Last of all the woman died also. Therefore, in the resurrection, whose wife of the seven will she be? For they all had her.’
Jesus answered and said to them, ‘You are mistaken, not knowing the Scriptures nor the power of God. For in the resurrection they neither marry nor are given in marriage, but are like angels of God in heaven. But concerning the resurrection of the dead, have you not read what was spoken to you by God, saying, ‘“‘I am the God of Abraham, the God of Isaac, and the God of Jacob’”’? God is not the God of the dead, but of the living.’ And when the multitudes heard this, they were astonished at His teaching.” (New King James Version)
What I notice in this passage is that Jesus (and later the Holy Spirit after Him) came to correct many false assumptions that often well-meaning people had or would have about the Scriptures. In this case, the Sadducees believed that there was no Resurrection, and they asked a hypothetical question about a woman who married seven Brothers. They wondered whose Wife she would be in the Resurrection. Jesus provided the answer that I’m sure is a big relief to anyone who has had multiple Spouses in this life, Imagine what a mess it would be if people remained married in the Coming Kingdom of God. Our LORD has come up with a brilliant solution, dissolve all marriages. In the future Kingdom, we will be like the Angels. We will have glorified bodies that will also be perfect. We will never again suffer pain or disease. I believe we will have all of our bodily functions that we have now, but there will be no sin. Relationships between men and women will be fulfilled. Men will not harm women at all, and women will not harm men at all. Our relationships will have been perfected. We will study the Word of God, led by God the Father, God the Son, and God the Holy Spirit. Imagine going to a Worship Service or a Bible Study where God Himself will give the Sermon. It is almost too much to think about, but that time is coming. I believe that we are very close to the Millennium. The next event on the prophetic calendar is the Resurrection, followed immediately by the Rapture of the Church. Soon, we will be reunited with our loved ones who have gone before us.
But the only way to live forever is to join with Christ, and to be on His side when He returns.
If you recognize that you are sinner in need of salvation, please pray the following prayer:
Heavenly Father,
I admit that I am a sinner in need of salvation, and I know that only Jesus Christ can save me. Father, I understand all the facts of the Gospel Story; that You sent Jesus to Earth to live a perfect life on our behalf because we could never do it ourselves; that Jesus went willingly to the Cross, and He willingly gave His Life in our place, to reconcile us to You, Our Heavenly Father; and that the Holy Spirit raised our LORD Jesus from the dead three days later to not only prove Who He was as Messiah, but to guarantee us Eternal Life through Him. I accept this Gospel in my life and for my life, and I promise to follow you, LORD, forever. I pray and say all of this in the Most Blessed Name of my Savior Jesus Christ. Amen and Amen.
If you said this prayer, and meant it, then you are now a follower of Christ, and you have officially entered into His Kingdom. Congratulations, you are now a child of God! Welcome to the Family of God! I pray that as you begin your journey walking with God, that you will learn the depth, the height, and the width of His Love for you.
If you are not currently attending Church, it is vitally important that you find a Bible-teaching Church and start there, joining in fellowship with other Christians. Watch a few of their sermons online, and if you hear the Pastor using a ton of Scripture, then he is a man of God.
Ask the Holy Spirit where to start reading in the Bible. If you were asking me, I would say start with the Gospel of John, for it is a beautifully written and poetic account of the First Coming of Christ. Then read the Book of Romans, for it t is a well-written, systematic theology and description of what it means to be a Christian. If the Holy Spirit leads you to another portion of Scripture first, then go there. Wherever you go to in Scripture, it will be a good place to start, for it important to study the Whole Counsel of God. Read the Word of God and be blessed, my Friends, as you get close to Christ. Amen.
