What is your middle name? Does it carry any special meaning/significance?
A while back, I was researching the meaning of my three names. My middle name, Rodriguez, which was my Mom’s maiden name, means “son of a famous power.”
The suffix “-ez” in my middle name means “son of,” as it means in all such names. The beginning part of my middle name, “Rodrigu,” comes from the Germanic name, “Hrodric,” which means “famous power” or “powerful ruler.”
I don’t know if I’ll ever be famous or powerful. I know that is not my goal in life. No, my goal in life is to serve God and His people. If that ever leads to fame and power, so be it.
I’ve always seen myself as a servant-leader. I do have aspirations for public office, but the last thing I want to be is a politician. I’d much rather be a statesman, someone who truly cares about the people I lead, rather than the things I need or want.
The model that I follow in my life is our Blessed LORD Jesus Christ. He had no need to be famous, and He never served Himself. He came to give His Life as a ransom for many. He was the ultimate Servant-Leader, and in the pages of Scripture, He left the standard for all true leaders to follow.
Unfortunately, our sin prevents us from serving to our full capacity. When Christ returns, He will set everything right, and He will destroy the problems of sin and death, so that His people will finally be free.
Jesus told us that when we see the signs He warned about begin to happen (wars and rumors of wars, nation rising against nation, pestilence, earthquakes in various places, the love of many growing cold, and people hating one another), to look up, for our redemption draws near.
Christ will come again, and He is the only Powerful Leader we’ll ever need. Amen.
