What’s your dream job?
My dream job is exactly what I’m doing right now. Our Blessed LORD has led me perfectly into my current role as a Licensed Marriage and Family Therapist. I love that I get to meet people from all walks of life. My youngest Client in my career has been 3 years old, and my oldest Client has been about 73 years old. In my career, I have sat across from many Christians, Jews, Atheists, Agnostics, you name it.
When I meet people from different belief systems, I never judge them. Why do you think that is? Well, God warns us in His Word that if we judge anyone, we will receive the same measure of judgment from Him toward us.
I’ve also had many Clients who were LGBT and transgender. Again, I will never judge them because that’s not my role. My role is to honor my Clients and to help them with their mental health, regardless of any behavior or belief system they may have.
In Matthew 28:18-20, our LORD Jesus commissioned us, when He said the following to His disciples:
“All authority has been given to Me in heaven and on earth. Go therefore and make disciples of all the nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit, teaching them to observe all things that I have commanded you; and lo, I am with you always, even to the end of the age.” Amen. (New King James Version)
Allow me to ask you a few questions about what you see and what you don’t see in this Great Commission. Do you see in Christ’s marching orders to us anything about taking over the government, or taking over the world, or being mean to people who don’t believe as we do, or forcing anyone to follow Him? The Truth is that our LORD Jesus asked us to do none of that. Instead, He asked us to make disciples for Him. What does that mean? When a Rabbi in Jesus’ day made disciples, he would invite people to follow him. He would never force anyone to be his disciple. And Rabbis would teach their followers everything they knew, to help them grow in their faith and in their knowledge of God. There is no such thing as a disciple who is forced to follow a Rabbi kicking and screaming as he goes along. That would just be silly, right?
So, that is what I do in my counseling; I invite people to know the God that I serve, and I invite them to know Him willingly. I never impose my beliefs on anyone, and I never judge anyone. God would not be happy with me if I did. And that is precisely why I love my current vocation as a counselor, for the LORD has asked me to be His ambassador to people who need His healing, and honestly, I can’t imagine doing anything else in my life. Amen.
